Connect an AI assistant
Last updated: October 28, 2026. If the Romanian and English versions differ, the Romanian version prevails.
Postero can connect to an AI assistant through MCP (Model Context Protocol), an open standard that gives an assistant access to a set of tools. Once connected, you ask in the chat to schedule a post, show what is about to go out, or prepare a draft with an image, and the assistant does it directly in your Postero account. Below you will find the steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code and Codex.
What the assistant can do
The assistant works only with what already exists in your Postero account, using the tools below.
- Channels and groups. Lists your connected channels and groups (clients), reads each network's rules and settings, and runs helper lookups, such as your Pinterest boards.
- Posts. Creates drafts, schedules a post for a date and time, or publishes it right away. Where the network supports it, it adds comments or thread parts. It lists posts in a date range with their status (scheduled, draft, published or failed), changes the settings of a post that is not published yet, and deletes posts.
- Media. Uploads an image or clip from a public URL, uploads a file from your device through a widget (in assistants that display it), lists your media library and checks whether a file has finished processing.
- AI images. Generates an image for a post.
Two notes. If you delete a post that is already published, it is removed from Postero only and stays live on the social network. And the assistant can only use channels you have already connected in Postero, under each network's own rules (character limits, accepted formats).
Before you start
- You have a Postero account (app.postero.ro).
- You have connected at least one channel in Postero. The assistant cannot connect new channels.
- You have an MCP client ready: Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or Codex.
There are two ways to connect. The recommended one is Sign in with Postero (OAuth), with no keys to copy. The alternative is an API key, described below. The URL for signing in with Postero is:
https://api.postero.ro/mcp-oauth-dynamic
The assistant registers itself, then opens a Postero sign-in screen. The screen asks for your consent to three things: access to your channels and integrations, creating and scheduling posts on your behalf, and reading your posts' statistics. You choose Authorize or Decline (shown in the Postero interface as „Autorizează” and „Refuză”).
Connect
Claude (claude.ai and desktop app)
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- For Name enter
Postero, and for URL pastehttps://api.postero.ro/mcp-oauth-dynamic. - Under OAuth client choose Register automatically. Claude may preselect Use Claude's published identity, but Postero does not support it and the sign-in fails.
- Click Add, then Connect.
- Sign in to Postero and click Autorizează (Authorize).
- In a new chat, click + → Connectors and check that Postero is on.
Claude asks for your approval before using a tool. You can set permissions per tool in Settings → Connectors → Postero.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connectors and choose Create.
- Paste the URL
https://api.postero.ro/mcp-oauth-dynamic. - Sign in to Postero and click Autorizează (Authorize).
Menu names in ChatGPT may differ with your plan and the app version. If you do not see connectors, look for the option to add a custom connector (MCP) in settings.
Claude Code
Run in a terminal:
claude mcp add postero --transport http "https://api.postero.ro/mcp-oauth-dynamic"
A browser window opens where you sign in to Postero. For the API key variant see below.
Codex
Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.postero]
url = "https://api.postero.ro/mcp-oauth-dynamic"
Then run in a terminal:
codex mcp login postero
You sign in to Postero in the browser that opens.
Alternative: with an API key
An API key is useful if you want to connect a client without the sign-in screen. You get it from Postero:
- Open Setări → Agenți / Dev (Settings → Agents / Dev).
- Under Cheie API (API key) use Arată (Show) or Copiază (Copy).
Keep the key secret. Anyone who has it can act in your Postero account, just like you. If it reached the wrong person, click Regenerează cheia (Regenerate key): the old key is disabled immediately, and the integrations that used it must be updated with the new key.
Claude and ChatGPT. The key goes in the URL, in place of <CHEIA_TA> (YOUR_KEY):
https://api.postero.ro/mcp/<CHEIA_TA>
Claude Code. The key is sent in a header:
claude mcp add --transport http postero https://api.postero.ro/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <CHEIA_TA>"
Codex. In ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.postero]
url = "https://api.postero.ro/mcp"
http_headers = { "Authorization" = "Bearer <CHEIA_TA>" }
Under Setări → Agenți / Dev the app shows the same instructions for these four clients.
Example requests
Write to the assistant as you would to a colleague. A few ideas:
- "Which channels do I have connected in Postero?"
- "Schedule a post about the new autumn menu for tomorrow at 10:00 on the LinkedIn company page."
- "Show me the posts scheduled this week, with day, time and channel."
- "Generate an image of a coffee cup on a wooden table and create an Instagram draft with it."
- "Upload the image from this address to the media library and attach it to Friday's post."
- "What are LinkedIn's rules for a post? How many characters can I use?"
Assistants usually ask you to confirm before they schedule or delete anything. Claude also asks you to approve each tool, unless you change its permissions. Check the time and the channel before you confirm.
Safety and data
- The assistant acts in your account, with your account's permissions. It cannot use channels you have not connected.
- What the assistant reads from Postero (posts, channels, media files) becomes part of your conversation with the AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI) and is handled under that provider's terms.
- Postero receives only what the assistant sends through these tools.
- Treat the API key like a password: do not paste it into conversations and do not publish it anywhere.
More in the Privacy Policy.
How to revoke access
- From Claude: Settings → Connectors → Postero → Disconnect.
- From Postero: open Setări → Aplicații → Aplicații aprobate (Settings → Apps → Approved apps) and click Revocă (Revoke) next to the app. The app asks you to confirm, and once you do, the access is withdrawn.
- For an API key: Setări → Agenți / Dev → Regenerează cheia. The old key stops working.
Common problems
Sign-in fails in Claude
Check that you chose Register automatically under OAuth client. If Claude preselected Use Claude's published identity, change it, because Postero does not support it.
The connector says "This connector has no tools available"
Refresh the page. If the list still describes old tools, click Disconnect, then Connect again.
Postero does not show up in the chat
In Claude, click + → Connectors and turn Postero on for the current chat.
The assistant cannot find a channel
The assistant only sees channels connected in Postero. Connect the channel in the app and ask the assistant to list the channels again.
I deleted a published post but it is still on the network
Deleting in Postero removes the post from Postero only. A post that is already published stays on the social network until you delete it there.
My API key reached the wrong person
Open Setări → Agenți / Dev and click Regenerează cheia. The old key stops working immediately. Then update the key in the clients you use.
